Accidents at work

Slips, trips and falls at work

Wet floors, obstructions, damaged surfaces and falls from height.

Understanding your circumstances

A workplace fall may happen in an office, warehouse, kitchen or on a construction site. We can look at how the risk arose and whether reasonable inspections, maintenance or safeguards could have prevented the injury.

A warning sign does not automatically settle whether reasonable precautions were taken. The location, how long the hazard existed and what the employer knew can all be relevant.

When a claim may be relevant

  • Spills that were not dealt with appropriately
  • Damaged walkways, loose cables or blocked routes
  • Unsafe ladders, platforms or work at height

These examples may need investigation. They do not establish eligibility or guarantee a successful claim.

Evidence to keep

  • Photographs of the area and any warning signs
  • An accident-book entry and witness details
  • Medical records and records of time off work

Keep what you already have, but do not delay seeking advice to collect every document.

What might compensation consider?

Depending on the case, an assessment may consider the injury, recovery, pain and suffering, lost earnings, treatment, care and other reasonable losses caused by the incident. The evidence and legal basis must support each part of a claim.

Costs and time limits

Time limits apply and depend on the circumstances. Seek advice promptly, particularly if the incident or treatment happened some time ago. Making an enquiry does not stop a deadline.

No Win, No Fee may be available. Eligibility, terms and possible deductions apply. How funding works

Read about time limits or explore funding.

Can I enquire if I still work for the same employer?

Yes. You can seek advice while you remain employed. Explain any concerns about your working relationship so the solicitor can discuss your circumstances and the options available.
